Hollis was born on the 24th of December 1929, in the small East Texas community of Springfield. He and his family moved to Houston when Hollis was twelve years old. He attended the University of Houston and graduated with a Masters of Business Administration in 1955. While at U of H he was a member and President of Gan Bey Fraternity and was a founding member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Hollis was a Life Member of the University of Houston Alumni Association and served on its Board of Directors. He was a long time member and Chairman of the Cougar Cookers and enjoyed participating with that group at the Houston Rodeo Barbecue Cook-off each year. He was an avid Cougar athletics fan and was a member of the “H” Association and Cougar Pride.
Hollis began his career with the Houston Chronicle at the age of 12 as a paper carrier. He returned to work at the Chronicle while he was in graduate school and worked as night manager of the complaint department. He was an independent distributor for the Chronicle for many years and then served as the Vice President of Circulation for the entire state of Texas. In 1996 he was honored by Hearst Corporation as recipient of the Silver Eagle Award for outstanding service. He retired from the Houston Chronicle in 1998.
Hollis loved to play golf and was a member of Pine Forest Country Club. He rarely missed an opportunity to play golf, regardless of weather. He often played in charitable tournaments including the Shell Houston Open Pro-Am.
Hollis is predeceased by his parents, Paul C. Price and Kathleen Hanks Price; and by his siblings, J.C. “Jake” Price, James H. “Cotton” Price, Virginia Williams and Alva Jo Lindsey.
Left to mourn his passing is his loving wife of 56 years, Lillian Price; and their children, Kathy Westmoreland and Hollis G. Price, Jr., both of Houston, and Laura Evans and her husband Andy, of Kalaheo, Hawaii. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Megan and Shannon Westmoreland, and Jackson Evans; and by his constant companion and “best friend” Toby. He also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, and many, many dear friends.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six until eight o’clock in the evening on Monday, the 6th of September, in the Library of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. At the conclusion of the visitation, the White Rose Ceremony is to be performed by members of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
All are invited to gather with the family for a graveside service and interment to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 7th of September, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Avenue in Houston. A uniformed steward from Geo. H. Lewis & Sons is to be positioned at the cemetery entrance so as to guide motorists to the interment site.
Honored to serve as casket bearers are Dr. James Price, Jr., Mark Price, J. Christopher Price, Gary R. Williams, Robert Lindsey, Michael Lindsey, Landon Overby and Diron Overby. Serving as honorary casket bearer is his long-time friend, J. Pleas Doyle.
The memorial service will follow at noon, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, where Rev. M. Eugene Vickrey is to serve as officiant.
Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception at a venue to be announced during the service.

There was a life well lived. There was a man well loved. He will not be forgotten.
