Herma accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age when she joined Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Winnfield, Louisiana. After moving to Houston, Texas, she affiliated with Second Baptist Missionary Baptist Church and Fifth Ward Missionary Baptist Church. She was currently a member of Thirty-Ninth Street Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Morsel Glynn (deceased) and later Rev. Edward O’Neal (current pastor).
She was faithfully active in Thirty-Ninth Street MBC and served as the Sunday School Superintendent, Mission President, and teacher. Herma also served in several positions with the Ministers Wives Charity Association. Other associations included the Acorn Civic Club, Welfare Rights Group for Women, NAACP, Women of National Achievement, Order of the Eastern Star, ERMM Mission and Elders Institute of Wisdom at SHAPE Center.
Herma enjoyed activities at the Acres Home Senior Program which included bingo and Bible Study. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing word search puzzles.
Herma was well known for her infectious smile, poise and grace. Was known by many as “Mama Glynn” and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her love for God was evident by her passion for life and her love for her family and friends. Herma remained true to her service to God and His word until she was called home to be with God.
She leaves to morn her four loving daughters Joyce Eugene (Robert), Faye Johnson Sanders, Terrie Eagleton and Marcell Glynn. Her Grandchildren Darrick Eugene (Chiquita), Andre Johnson, LaShandra Bradford, Steven Johnson (Kathleen) Ahmad Eagleton, Rashad Eagleton and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A public visitation will occur at The Church at Bethel's Family Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 12660 Sandpiper Dr., Houston, TX 77035. Following, funeral services will start at 11:00 am. Committal service will occur Friday, November 4, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77038.
