86 years old.
Born in Houston, Texas May 29,1926 passed away August 30,2012.Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Monica Chavez, sons, Anthony Chavez, MD and wife, Paulette, Patrick Chavez and wife Meg. Grandchildren include Cory, Daniel, Matthew, Jennifer, Mark, Marguerite, Rachel, Michael, and Richard, and great grandson, Wyatt. Herlinda is also survived by her brothers Reynaldo and Paul Herrera, sisters Tillie Dominguez, Carolina, Victoria, and Margarita Herrera. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Maria Herrera; brother, Joe Herrera and sister, Rachel Reed; sons Michael Jr. and Mark Chavez.
Herlinda was a charter member of the Women's Association of Houston Police Department Narcotic Division. She was employed by St. Joseph's Hospital before working for Dr. Ben Wapole.
Herlinda was a lover of antiques and loved anything "old". She was creative in designing and making hook rugs, quilts, and embroidery. Herlinda was a woman ahead of her time. In 1964, she reclaimed old building materials such as bricks, windows, fixtures and flooring in which she used in the design of family's home.
Herlinda truly had the "gift of gab", making friends wherever she would travel. She had a great sense of adventure which allowed her to live every day to the fullest. She had an insatiable love of nature, especially the changing of the seasons.
Herlinda will be greatly missed. But her legacy and her spirit will live on in her children, grandchildren and great grandson; and for that gift we will forever be thankful.
