Henry Oluwarotimi Sunday Somoye, 64, of Richmond, TX was called home by his heavenly father on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023. Henry was a man with great charisma and a big heart. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. While his death brings his family and friends great sadness, Henry would not want us to mourn him but be happy and celebrate his life.
Henry was born on April 12th, 1959, in Lagos, Nigeria. He was one of seven children to the parentage of Stephen Olabisi Somoye and Racheal Olabowale Somoye who both preceded him in death. After his father passed in 1973, Henry became the man of the house at an early age and supported his family. In the early 1980s, he moved to the United States to create a better life for himself and his family back home in Nigeria.
One of his first jobs in the United States was at Steak and Ale where he was a cook. Steak and Ale became his favorite job as it taught him the true value that people hold and helped him create a vision to become a business owner. While still employed at Steak and Ale, Henry began his entrepreneurship as a videographer, which would one day turn into “Me to U Gifts”. “Me to U Gifts” was successfully ran for over 10 years expanding beyond videography to specializing in custom printing on anything imaginable, including shirts, mugs, appliances, and much more.
Henry was a hardworking man that believed there was no task too big or too small that he could not handle. With the desire to give his family a better life, in 2005 Henry accepted a job at KRB serving in Afghanistan and Iraq where he put his life on the line for over 8 years. His strong faith in God and the grace that was bestowed upon him allowed him to complete his service and come home to his family.
He served God his entire life and consistently walked in the path of the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Through blissful times and challenging moments, Henry stayed committed as a renowned member for over 20 years of Celestial Church of Christ Deliverance Parish. During this time Henry became a role model impacting many lives through his acts of service. His faith in the word of Jesus Christ prepared Henry for his departure into the kingdom of heaven.
With his faith, he lived a life of joy and happiness with no regrets. He believed that if you put God first in all you do, he will help you succeed. Through everything he was able to accomplish in life, his biggest accomplishment was being a loving husband and a caring father. He enjoyed playing with his gadget, movie nights with his loving wife, and simply spending time with his family. He also enjoyed watching his children grow and accomplish their goals which became some of his proudest moments. He was truly a family man. Henry was a great teacher and a selfless man that loved giving gifts, not only to his family but to anyone that crossed his path. One of the greatest gifts that he leaves us with is the firm belief that, “It’s not about what people think of you now but how they will remember you when you are gone.”
Henry was happily married and is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Patience Somoye, his five children: David, Judith, Eniola, Anuoluwapo and Oluwatomisin, three brothers and three sisters, and grandson King David and much more family and friends.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.chapelofeternalpeace.com for the Somoye family.
