Henry became a Christian at an early age. He attended Parks Independent School District. Henry moved to Houston for better job opportunities where he met his wife, Elsie Potts Charles. They enjoyed a caring and loving relationship for 65 years. They had three children in their marriage. He was a loving and dedicated father.
Henry received many compliments as a hard worker over the years. He worked and retired from McLean Trucking Company. He is also a retired member of the Teamsters Union.
Henry was a long-time member of St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was also a dedicated member of The Knights of Peter Claver Inc. For many years after his retirement, Henry enjoyed doing volunteer work for the church. Henry had a passion for home improvement projects and was always willing to give his family and friends a helping hand. He also loved yard work and growing vegetable gardens.
Henry leaves to cherish his precious memories his daughter, Gwendolyn Johnson, son in law, John Johnson; daughter, Sylvia Baker; two sons, Michael and Gerald Charles; sister, Gert Hardy (Preston); seven grandchildren, Ebony and Jarrett Johnson, Shavrielle (Shay), Ladazeja (DJ), and Kamryn (Kam) Charles; Camille and Justin Baker.
A visitation for Henry will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A funeral service will occur Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 10:30 AM. A burial will occur Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Brookside Memorial Park.
