Born on June 25, 1933 in Thornton, Texas to Malcolm and Althea Smith, Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of fifty-four years, Prentice Potter, her daughter Pamela Sue Reeves, and eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons, Tommy (and wife Marty), Allen (and wife Pat), and Kenneth (and wife, Donna.) Other survivors include a sister, Bobbie Smith, thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
After raising her children, Helen’s focus in her life was her church. She was always one of the first volunteers in planning church events such as Lunch on the Lawn. Other than her church involvement, her favorite activity was shopping at Sam’s. In the last year and a half, Helen’s health had declined such that she could no longer enjoy getting out and going to church…or Sam’s.
The family wants to especially thank Helen’s granddaughter, Christi Sue Reeves, who was devoted to her grandmother as her caregiver in recent months, and to Christi’s children, Prentice and Solie Mia, who provided love and support to Helen in her home often sitting with her, holding her hand, and comforting her.
Services are scheduled for Wednesday, August 2, at Dignity Brookside Funeral Home Family Chapel at 10:00 am followed by interment at the Brookside cemetery. Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039
