Helen attended the University of Houston for a short time before meeting Martin Luker, Jr. at Trinity Lutheran Church. They were married May 28, 1949 at Trinity. This was the beginning of her career as a wife, mother and homemaker.
Helen and Martin were charter members of St. Andrew Lutheran Church before joining St. Mark Lutheran Church in 1959. Helen served the church for many years working with the Sunday School and VBS programs, coordinating bereavement meals, volunteering at school functions, serving on Altar Guild and ministering to others by visiting with them on the phone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two brothers. Helen is survived by son Marty and wife Kay, daughter Kathy and husband Kurt, daughter Debbie and husband Dan, son David and wife Joan; grandchildren Tim and wife Jen, Ben, Adam and wife Lauren, Alex and wife Claire, Stephen and wife J’ai, Geoff and wife Laykin, Jillian and husband Ryan and Heidi; great grandchildren, Will, Cece, Mary Kate, and Coraline, Asher, Finn, and John, Mike and Owen, and baby arriving in September, Lynlie Rae Luker. She was proud of each and every one of them.
Family and friends gathered and shared memories during a visitation at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, in Houston, Texas, where funeral services were held in the sanctuary at 2:00 p.m. Helen was laid to rest alongside her husband at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, also in Houston.
