Helen Harriet Brown was called to her heavenly home on Monday, August 28th, 2023 just four days shy of her 92nd birthday. Mom was born September 1st, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to George L. Scharringhausen, Jr. and Harriet D. Scharringhausen (Zorn). She grew up and attended schools in Park Ridge, Illinois, where her father and grandfather owned Scharringhausen’s Pharmacy. Mom graduated with a pharmacy degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She then retuned to Park Ridge to practice along side her father, grandfather, and in a few years, her brother Bill. Mom was a lifelong Lutheran, and always very active in her local church communities. She spent many youthful summers at Camp Arcadia on Lake Michigan, a Lutheran Cottage Community. After retirement, she happily began attending “elder camp” there, oftentimes reconnecting with past friends. Mom was a lifelong baseball and hockey fan, beginning with the Cubs (her mom’s team) and the Black Hawks (her dad’s). Once hockey came to Houston, the Aeros became her hockey focus. She was an avid fan and dedicated booster, as her “Booster of the Year” award can attest. Mom loved travelling, reading, dominoes, and finding recipes that she always intended to try. Family was Mom’s other cornerstone. She grew up with her brother, Bill, and four other cousins with whom she remained close all her life. They celebrated “Cousin’s Christmas” for over two decades. Helen is survived by her much-loved brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Barbara, and their children. Mom had six children within eight years: Pam (Tripp), Katie (John), Susie (Wade), Jennie (Dave), Andy (Lucia) and Mike (Pam). She was blessed with ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mom was preceded in death by her parents, her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Pam, and grandson Jeremy. Mom was greatly loved, and will be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to AT-Children’s Project at atcp.org.
