Hazel Daniel Layne

Hazel Daniel Layne passed away on October 1, 2012 in Houston TX. Hazel was born on August 21, 1925 in Frankston TX. She was preceded in death by her parents John T and Edna Daniel, brothers Ernest & JT, sisters Ila & Lola. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Porter Leon Layne, children Patrick Layne and Mary Jo Guynes, grandchildren Kristin Smith, Heidi Layne Wong, husband Kennith and Josh McDaniel, great grandchildren Kennedy Smith and Presley Smith, and her brother Paul Daniel. She is survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews and numerous friends. Hazel was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Retired School Teachers Association and The SWELLS group. She was an avid Houston Astros fan and was a season ticket holder for 25 years. You never experienced an Astros game until you went with her, because everyone knew her, she pulled for The Astros whether they were winning or losing. She taught English, Grammar and Novels classes at Spring Woods High School, her former students still say they learned more than they wanted to in her classroom. Leon and Hazel had traveled to all 50 states, as well as trips abroad. Visiting family and family vacations were top priority.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Thursday October 4, 2012 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 12:30 pm Friday October 5, 2012 in the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow.
