Harry Lee Stout died suddenly early Tuesday morning, the 22nd of January 2013, with his wife by his side, at the age of 65. Harry was born and grew up in Sherman, Texas. Harry completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Arkansas and Steven F. Austin. He received his law degree from St. Mary’s College of Law, San Antonio, Texas in 1972. Harry began his professional career serving as an Aide to U.S. Congressman, Ray Roberts, in Washington DC. From 1978 until he joined KCS Energy, he served in various senior executive capacities at Florida Gas Transmission, HNG-Internorth Interstate Pipeline Company, Enron Gas Marketing Company, Enron Gas Bank and Minerex Corporation, where he was responsible for areas of contract review, coordination of litigation, the preparation and finalization of derivative oil & gas hedge instruments and producer-financed acquisitions.
In 2010, Harry retired. He spent time with his loving wife, his family, and his beloved friends. He was a scratch golfer who worked professionally with Miller Barber in his youth. He would tell you today, “play it as it lies.” Harry was a long-time member of Sweetwater Country Club, and was recently named the Club’s reigning Senior Champion. Harry was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman, and especially enjoyed hunting with his brothers, niece, nephews and friends. He enjoyed spending special occasions at the Brown Family Farm in Tennessee. He also enjoyed chili cook offs including a championship at Chilympiad in San Marcos. Harry was an exceptionally gentleman who took compassionate care of all people with a heart of gold and overwhelming generosity. Harry‘s greatest passion was bringing joy to the lives of everyone he met. With his effervescent sense of timing and alert style, Harry Lee could engage anyone in commentary with endless stories that made everyone feel special. He saw the positive in everything and will always be remembered for his smile and laughter.
Harry is preceded in death by his father, Dr. Joseph Stout. Harry is survived by his wife of 31 years, Tomie Diane Brown Stout; mother, Patricia Stout, brothers; Randy Stout and wife Jennifer, Norman Stout and wife Bradley, sisters; Anna Hagemeier and husband Marvin and Laura Fincher, sister-in-law; Barbara Jean Johnston and husband Johnny, and sister-in-law, Laura Beth Brown. Nephews; Stephen Buell and Thomas Buell, Joe Stout, nieces; Tricia Stout Ebel and husband Eric, and Addie Stout, long-time support Marina Medrano and family, and beloved yellow labs Amazing Grace and Puppy Love.
Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Harry during a reception from four o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Sunday, the 27th of January, in the grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 28th of January, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, where the Rev. Martin J. Bastian, Senior Associate Rector for Pastoral Care at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that contributions in Harry’s name be directed to the Ronald McDonald House, 1907 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX, 77030; or to the charity of one’s choice.
