Harold Philip Paul

Harold Philip Paul left this earth to join our Lord in heaven on February 4, 2014. Phil was born on September 28, 1926 in Saint Louis, Missouri to Harold and Elsie Paul and spent his childhood years in Ft. Madison, Iowa. Phil began college at the University of Iowa, however his higher education was interrupted by World War II. He served in the U.S. Army as a Sargent and spent part of his tour in The Philippines. Returning to civilian life, Phil resumed his college studies. After graduating from Iowa in 1950 with a BS degree in Business, Phil married Dorothy Wiesner, whom he had dated during their high school years in Ft. Madison. A devoted father, Phil and Dorothy raised three children, Jeffrey, John, and Jennifer.

Phil is preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Dorothy Wiesner Paul; father Harold W. Paul; mother Elsie Ernst Paul; brother Colonel John F. Paul and wife Wanda; brother David E. Paul and wife Marcie; and great grandson Thatcher Caleb Paul. Phil is survived by his three children, son Jeff and wife Diane of The Woodlands, TX and grandsons, Ryan and wife Sarah of Montgomery, TX and great grandchildren Cason and Claire; grandson Kevin and wife Stephanie of Houston, TX; and grandson Eric and wife Whitney of The Woodlands, TX and great grandson Asher; son John and wife Catherine of West Linn, OR, and granddaughter Madison; and daughter Jennifer Payton and husband Russell of Copper Canyon, TX and granddaughters Amy, Rachel, and Hannah.

Phil returned to Fort Madison to begin his work career at the family business, Paul Electric Company. He later joined Collins Radio and Rockwell International as a Contract Manager which took the family to Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Richardson, Texas; and later to Iran and Saudi Arabia. Phil and Dorothy took advantage of these destinations and had the opportunity to travel the world. Upon retirement in The Woodlands, Texas, Phil was active with Senior Men’s Golf at The Woodlands Country Club, playing bridge, and watching his grandchildren grow up. He served his community by being a director with the Montgomery County MUD and volunteering at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Throughout his life, Phil helped serve the Lord in his position as Trustee, Deacon, and Elder at the various Presbyterian churches he attended, including The Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church.

Phil is now in the Lord's home and will be missed on this earth. He graced us for 87 years. A private graveside service will be held at the VA National Cemetery in Houston on February 11, 2014.
