Harold Devon Chapman, age 84, of Waller, Texas, died on April 14, 2024, at Memorial City Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, TX. He was born February 26, 1940, in Plymouth, Indiana, the son of the late William Chapman and Beatrice Stephenson Chapman. On June 10, 1973, he married Jean Darby in Russiaville, Indiana, and she survives. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2023.
Harold was a 1958 graduate of Tippecanoe High School, Tippecanoe, Indiana. He attended Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana, and completed his degree in business and math in 1964. In 1977 he completed his masters degree at Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana. His undergraduate college education was interrupted by his three years of service in the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Aberdeen Maryland, and spent a year in Vietnam. Harold was very proud of being a veteran.
Harold spent the majority of his career in the field of education. He taught in Aldine I.S.D at Carver High School and Eisenhower High School. He also taught at the Texas School of Business for a few years. His most enjoyable years in education were spent in the math department of Tomball College.
After retirement, Harold began playing golf with friends from church. Their weekly outings were filled with tall tales and lots of laughs. Harold often returned from these outings boasting that he knew he won because he had the highest score.
Harold is survived by his wife, Jean Darby Chapman, his children Richard (Lisa) Chapman, Pamela Pembridge, and Michael (Shelley) Chapman. He is also survived by his brother Lowell (Shari) Chapman and his sister Ruth (Larry) Swihart. He was proud of his seven grandchildren, Rachel (Vaughn) Chapman Vogelman, Tommy Pembridge, Andrew Pembridge, Danielle Pembridge, Bradon Pembridge, Ian Chapman and Parker Chapman.
A funeral will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024, at 1:00 pm at American Heritage Funeral Home located at 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Tx. 77038. Visitation will be from 12:00 -1:00 pm prior to the service. Internment will be at Houston National Cemetery.
