Guillerma Mendoza, also known to others as Nene, age 99, of Houston, Texas passed away on Sunday April 24, 2022. Guillerma was born January 4, 1923 in Batangas, Philippines. Guillerma grew up in Batangas to where she eventually married Fidel Mendoza who worked in politics. Guillerma lived the simple life and devoted most of her time to raising her 11 children. This led to an amazing extended family of many grandchildren and great grandchildren all over the world whom she loved to spend time with and care for.
Her favorite pastimes included sewing, designing and creating her own purses, and making traditional Filipino dishes like rice cakes all to which she sold from time to time due to their popularity. Guillerma was also a very passionate member of Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) which is a branch of Christianity originated in the Philippines. She spent time volunteering at her local church in Batangas and met many lifelong friends at this church. Even when she immigrated to the United States in the early 1990s, she continued serving the church community. While in the United States, she resided with her eldest son Fernando in Houston, Texas. In Houston, Guillerma spent time caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren all while helping out with the family business.
Guillerma is survived by her sisters, Rosita, Arceli, and Amalia; Sons, Fernando, Guillermo, Nestor, Reynaldo, Rolando, Clemente, Manuel; Daughters, Victoria, Rosario, Genoveva, Erlinda; Multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren who all reside in the Philippines, Canada and the United States.
Her family and friends remember Guillerma as a kind, caring, and generous woman who was very stoic yet strong. She always ensured her family was well cared for, showered with love, and with full stomachs of her delicious cooking. Guillerma will always be remembered for her selflessness, giving heart and always being beautifully dressed regardless of the occasion.
A visitation for Guillerma will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, 7010 Chetwood, Houston, TX 77081.
