Greg was born January 18, 1967, in Houston to Annie Scott. He grew up in Fifth Ward with his mom and three siblings. From an early age, he had a strong work ethic and got his first job at age 14. He also loved going skating at Superskate with his brother, Anthony. As he got older, Greg discovered a love for electronics and computers. He was self-taught, and could tell you anything you needed to know about them. He also passed that same love on to his son Gregory, Jr., which allowed them to sit and talk for hours about a shared passion.
In 1998, Greg met Andrea, whom he would spend the remainder of his life with, and together they had one son, Gregory, Jr., who he considered to be his greatest accomplishment. He was the best husband and dad anyone could ever ask for, and he loved his family more than anything. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and watching their collection of movies, one of his favorites being the Star Wars series. One thing that a lot of people don’t know, is that he collected vintage G.I. Joe action figures, and was only one away from completing his collection. Greg also spent the last 24 years working for YRC Freight as a City Truck Driver and recently received an award for driving 1 million miles accident-free.
For almost the last five years, Greg has battled metastatic prostate cancer, but regardless of how tired or bad he felt he continued to work. Greg was the strongest and bravest man you could ever meet, and he was loved and admired by many.
Greg is preceded in death by his mom, Annie Scott, step-dad, George Montgomery, nephews Detrimond Tyler and Christopher “Peanut” Rachel. He is survived by his wife Andrea Lewis, and son Gregory Lewis, Jr. He is also survived by his brothers Dwight “Squeaky” Scott, Anthony (Racheal) Lewis, sister Lakevia “Kebo” Tyler, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Andrea and Gregory, Jr. would like to thank all their family and friends along with Greg’s YRC Family and Andrea’s ABF Family for all their continued love and support. They would also like to thank those at MD Anderson and Resolutions Hospice who contributed to the care of Greg throughout his journey.
