On January 2, 2024, Gregory Lee Gilbert, peacefully passed away in The Woodlands, Texas at the age of 67. Greg was born in Houston, Texas on August 26, 1956, to Barbra and the late Chesley B. Gilbert (C.B.). Greg was a man of quiet strength and enduring love for his family. His life was deeply rooted in his devotion to his wife of 41 years, Donna Marie Gilbert. Together they nurtured a family built on a foundation of love, mutual respect, care, and unwavering support. In his role as a loving father to Christi Gilbert Lowrey and Gregory Lee Gilbert II, Greg was a steady presence, imparting values of honesty and perseverance through his actions more than his words. His grandchildren, Holcomb, Hartman, Myers, and Gregory Lee III (Tres), knew him as “Bampaw,” a title he bore with immense pride and joy. Professionally, Greg continued his father's legacy by running G.L. Gilbert Electrical for 32 years. His work ethic and integrity running the business mirrored the way he approached life – with diligence and a straightforward honesty.
Greg's love for the outdoors and his hobbies were deeply intertwined with his devotion to his family and friends. For him, fishing, hunting, and the ringing of a winning jackpot with Donna and friends were much more than mere pastimes; they were opportunities to bond, teach, and share experiences with those he loved. He found joy in the quiet moments of fishing, often with his kids by his side, absorbing the beauty of nature and the tranquility of the water. These were times not just for fishing, but for imparting life lessons and sharing the peaceful serenity that only such settings can offer. As the sun set on a day spent outdoors, whether on the water or in the woods, Greg cherished these times for the peace they brought and the connections they fostered. His genuine appreciation for nature's beauty and the simple joys of being with loved ones were at the heart of these experiences.
Greg is survived by his loving wife Donna, daughter, Christi Lowrey and husband Josh Lowrey, son, Gregory Gilbert II and wife Rachel Gilbert, and his mother, Barbra Patton Gilbert. He is also survived by his brother, Chesley Gilbert (Butch) and wife Alma; his sister, Diane Gilbert; four grandchildren (Holcomb, Hartman, Myers and Tres) and his large, loving extended family. His presence will be deeply missed but forever felt in the hearts of those who loved him.
A gathering to honor and celebrate Greg's life will be held on January 14,2024 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Forest Park Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road in Houston, with a reception immediately following the service from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Donations to St. Jude Research Children's Hospital are appreciated in lieu of flowers, a choice inspired by Greg's profound empathy for children facing health challenges, which he witnessed firsthand during his 32-month battle with cancer.
Gregory Lee Gilbert's life was a testament to the strength found in love, family, and quiet integrity. His memory will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
