Our beloved father, Gregory L. Chapa, 78, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 1, 1945, in Lamesa, Texas to †Gregorio & †Margarita L. Chapa.
Gregory was a strong loving soul as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. We find comfort knowing he is resting in peace and reunited with our angels in heaven.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gregorio & Margarita Chapa and his sisters. Gloria Miranda and Aurora Martin.
Gregory was married on November 6, 1966, to Dolores Chapa. He was a loving husband of 58 years and a devoted father to his four children: Gregory (Cindy), Margie (Armando), Samuel (Sonia) and Roland. Together they have raised their children with love and great pride. He instilled his strong beliefs in God, Family, Love, Respect and Hard Work.
He was a grandfather to seven grandchildren; Gregory Frank, Amanda, Samantha, Morgan, Kasey, Armando III (Trey) & Kathryn, and great-grandson; Aidan.
He was the eldest brother to twelve siblings: Vina (†Domingo), Irma (Jesse), Rudy (Yolanda), Alice (Sam), Patsy, Jake (Diana), Robert (Lisa), Roy (Sandra), Delma (Mario), Lucy, † Gloria and † Aurora.
Gregory attended Aldine High school and at age 17 he served in the United States Army where he earned multiple medals; Purple Heart Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Sharpshooter (Rifle M-16) Medal, Marksman (Pistol .45) Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge. He was respected and admired by colleagues and peers, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.
After being honorably discharged from the military, he worked as a welder and then joined the United States Post Office. He retired from the United States Post Office after 30 years.
Gregory was the selfless Patriarch of our family. He opened his door to anyone that needed his guidance or advice. He loved to read in his spare time and was always ready to challenge himself to any task at hand. His deep Catholic faith guided him through life’s journey. He found comfort in prayer and regular church attendance. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and always ready to celebrate his grandchildren’s accomplishments big or small. His impact on our lives is immeasurable; the memories created together will be treasured forever.
He touched the lives of countless individuals through his love, kindness, generosity, and words of wisdom. He will be deeply missed by everyone. His love was the greatest. Thank you to everyone for your continued prayers, love, and support during this difficult time.
A visitation for Gregory will be held Sunday, November 26, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Earthman Resthaven and a visitation the following day on November 27, 2023 from 9:00AM to 10:30AM also at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home. A church service will occur Monday, November 27, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at St Patrick Catholic Church, 4918 Cochran St, Houston, TX 77009. A committal will occur Monday, November 27, 2023 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Rosewood Memorial Park, 2602 S Houston Ave, Humble, TX 77396.
