Ichie Godfrey Onyeso Obi, last son of the late Mr. Godfrey Okafor Obi Sr. & Madam Lydia Nwogbo Obi was born on October 3, 1949 in Adabebe Village, Amawbia, Nigeria. After completing high school in Nigeria, he moved to the United States for further study under the sponsorship of his dear brother, the late Barrister Joseph Sunday Okonkwo Umeadi Obi. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in May 1979 and cum laude with a Masters of Science from East Texas State University in August 1984.
He was united in holy matrimony to Julie Chi Achonu on May 18, 1985 at St. Philip’s United Methodist Church. The union was blessed with two children, Dr. Chrystal Obi and Dr. Franklin Obi.
Godfrey was an active member of Our Savior Anglican Church, Ndi-Ichie Cultural Club of Houston and Amawbia Town Union Houston.
Above all, Godfrey was a devoted husband, father, brother and uncle and friend.
Godfrey Obi is survived by his wife Julie; children, Chrystal and Franklin; nephew and family, Charles and his wife Stella; niece and nephew, Gloria Obi and Frank; as well as two older brothers and their respective families; Humphrey and Christian Obi. He is remembered by a multitude of loving in-laws, nieces/grandnieces, nephews/grandnephews and a host of long-time friends all over the world.
For this God is our God forever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
