Gloria attended Custer High School in Milwaukee and received her A.A. (Phi Theta Kappa) in Paralegal from the Milwaukee Area Technical College in 1994. The majority of her working career was spent in the legal field. She served as the Event Coordinator for Temple Shalom in Milwaukee before retiring in 2002 and moving to Houston.
Gloria married Robert Smith in 2003. They embarked on a series of adventures and in 18 years they never left one another’s side. They loved music and travelling, be it by air, land, or sea, and made new friends wherever they went. They were regular attendees of the Sandy Beaches Cruises and the Big Blues Benders. Everyone who met Gloria loved her. She had a beautiful smile and the biggest heart. She loved to cook and feed others, hosting a large Mardi Gras-themed red beans and rice party each Spring.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Mary Jane Ness; her sisters, Cindy Ness and Sandy Pavlik; her former husbands, Michael Erwin (father of her child, Julia) and Scott Prickril. Gloria is survived by her husband, Robert Smith; her brothers, Bobby Ness (Trudi) and Donnie Ness (David Pittman); her daughter, Julia Leuzinger (Brian); her step-daughters, Stephanie Morton (Chris) and Courtney Cotton (Ryan); her step-son, Nolan Smith (Jeany); her grandchildren, Ophelia Leuzinger, Bennett Leuzinger and Rose Lide; her step-grandchildren, Caleb Morton, Wyatt Morton, Hannah Cotton, John Cotton and Morighan Smith; and far too many close and loving friends to list.
Celebrations of Gloria’s life will be held at later dates both in Houston and Milwaukee.
In lieu of flowers, Gloria would rather have a generous donation made to your local food bank. She loved to feed the hungry.
Rest in Peace, G-Lo.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.heightsfuneralhome.com for the Smith family.
