The Lord, in his mercy and wisdom, called Gloria Marie Russell to her eternal resting place on Saturday, August 20, 2022. Born in Houston, Texas on January 16, 1957, Gloria was raised by her loving parents alongside her big sister. Growing up, Gloria was a free-spirited girl who loved to have fun and bring joy to others. She would spread happiness by using her artistic talents such as singing old hymn songs or ones she would make up for her family and friends. Gloria would also put her heart into writing the most eloquent birthday cards using her best poetry writing skills because celebrating people’s lives were so important to her. Her son, Jesse, was her everything. She spent a lot of time creating artwork for Jesse which he stills cherishes to this day. Gloria was a strong handed, strong willed, and a strong framed woman for such a tiny person. She was decisive in her decisions, knew what she wanted, and it was hard not to give into her. One time she even proved her strength by winning an arm-wrestling contest against fierce competitor’s. She was quite a woman.
And boy did Gloria love to enjoy and win a card game. Picture the whole family sitting around a table with music in the background telling stories and laughing while playing a game of “31”. You would know that Gloria won because she would give the biggest smile that let out a chuckle while she quickly collected her money.
Gloria’s purse was filled with all her favorite things including her cherished bible. With a kind heart she always kept her Christian faith making sure to always pray for all her family and friends and sing them “Amazing Grace” when uplifting was needed. Always caring for others, she would make daily phone calls to check up on her family. Her thoughtfulness was always extended by her generosity. If you were in her presence, she would offer you a present. Strangers were no exception to simple gifts such as candy or a knickknack from her purse. She just had such a pure heart with the upmost love for human life.
Gloria is preceded in death by her husband, James Kenneth Russell, her father, Arvin Lloyd Rogers, and brother n law, William Taylor. Gloria is survived by her loving mother, Nelda Rogers and her best friend and sister, Glenda Taylor. She leaves behind her “Pride and Joy”, her son, Jesse Russell and his wife Katie. Gloria loved her niece, Misty and her husband, Bruce Budnick, along with Misty’s children: Slade and McKenna Meek, Bryce Hailey, and Bryce’s daughter Haden. She had many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. All whom she truly loved, and she made sure she told them daily.
