Glenn Morris Cole of Friendswood, Texas passed away on 9 April, 2024. He was 95 when he left this earth and now stands in the presence of the Lord (2 Cor 5:8). He was born in Pilot Point, Texas, growing up on the farm owned and worked by his parents.
Mr. Cole loved many things during his long life … his wife of 67 years, Merle Katherine Cole, his sons Glenn Jr. (Scooter), Gayland (Bubba), family and his church family. He also loved music and playing his guitar. He knew and could sing every verse of just about any old gospel song you could request. The thing he loved most however was his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, in whom he believed and served faithfully since 1957, the year our Lord Jesus forgave him of his sins and saved him from the just judgement of eternal punishment those sins required – For it was Christ himself who took on the burden of those sins on the cross.
Mr. Cole did indeed love many things in this life, and everybody loved Mr. Cole. He possessed one of those rare combinations of sweet, humorous and a genuinely caring spirit which drew all to love him.
He served his nation proudly during the Korean War conflict, having married Merle a mere 7 days prior to departing for the 2-year assignment to the war zone. He returned a seasoned combat veteran and began building a life together with his beloved “Merle Katherine” as he always referred to her.
He returned from Korea to the position at Houston Light and Power (HL&P) that he had begun shortly before departing. He initially worked as a lineman, climbing “1000’s of poles” as he would say, ensuring the power grid remained secure for the growing population around the Houston area. He eventually reached the position of “General Manager” where he was responsible for hundreds of employees and a $94,000,000+ budget.
Mr. Cole retired in 1990 and enjoyed several decades of serving our Lord alongside his beloved Merle Katherine, finally settling as members of Providence Baptist Church of Pasadena, TX where he served faithfully until his death.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Merle, father, Charlie Joe Cole, Sr., mother, Emma Cornett Pedigo Cole, son Glenn Morris Cole Jr. (Scooter), brothers, George Washington Cole (Juanita), Gene Amos Cole (Mildred), Charlie Joe Cole, Jr. (Fonzeal), Francis Vernon Cole (Carolyn – wife of Tillman Rodabaugh) and sisters Mandy Lee Cole Richardson (Don) and Mary Ann Cole Johnson (Billy Bob)
He and Merle were very close to and influential in the lives of 3 grandchildren who survived them including Aaron Cole (Becky), Chelsea DeLeon (Joey) and Morgan Cole, and nephews Gene Cole (Cindy) and Mark Cole (Renee). As well as several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at 1030 on Saturday, 13 April at Mr. Cole’s home church, Providence Baptist Church, followed by a service at 1130. A graveside ceremony at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery will commence at 1500.
