On November 30, 1934 a beautiful baby girl was born, Gladys Marie Peters, who was affectional known as “Big Mama”, was born in Shepherd, TX to Rogers Peters and Clara Peyton. She gave her life to Christ at an early age where she attended St. Claire Missionary Baptist Church.
She later moved to Houston, TX where she met and married Virgil Lee Brown and added to the union where 3 children were born, later she married Frank Reece, she went on to join Bathsheba Baptist Church where she sung with the gospel group “Harold Gospel Singers” and she was an Eastern Star. For many years she was a caregiver until she opened her business, “Helping Hands” in Cleveland, TX.
Gladys was a soft sweet spirited person that was known as “Big Mama” and “Aunt Ree”, she loved to cook, everyone loved her famous gumbo and punch bowl cake, her favorite team is Dallas Cowboys, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, dancing to Zydeco.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Reece, son Tommy Lee Brown, grandson L’Terrell Ford, granddaughter, Sonjala Harrell, two brothers, James Peters, Preston Peters; sisters, Hazel Joseph, Ester Amos.
She leaves to cherish her memories with daughters, Juanita Bolden, Robbie Harrell; sister, Wilma Jean Rolfe, and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, special friend/sister Erma Jewel.
