Remembering Our Beloved Gladys Maxine Johnson was born September 15, 1941, to William Bill Croomes and Zelma Croomes in Milo Oklahoma. She moved to Houston, Texas at the age of 2. She received her formal education at Wesley Elementary, Harper Junior High School, and Booker T. Washington.
She accepted Christ at an early age. She served at Highland Heights COGIC under the leadership of Pastor M.T. Roberts where she was choir President, decorating coordinator, Sunday School Teacher and much more. She continued serving God and ministering under her Leder Apostle Clifton L. Walker at the New Beginning Christian Tabernacle (Highland Heights) until her death. She was a woman of Faith. Always ministering to others and speaking in tongues. She was truly a woman of strength and dignity. Gladys Maxine was united in marriage to the love of her life Charles E. Johnson on August 28, 1959.
Their love was inseparable. They truly loved one another. Their union was blessed with six beautiful children. Vernita, Gwendolyn, Charles Jr., Beatrice, Trina and Kimberly. Charles and Gladys were married for 52 years until God called him home. Gladys was employed by Blalock Nursing Home where she did what she liked doing the most taking care of people. She had a lot of wisdom in medicines and taking care of the body. She was a great sister, sister-in-law, Aunt and friend to everyone she met. She loved being a grandmother and great grandmother to her grands. She made sure she was in the birthing room with all 13 of her grandchildren.
Gladys Maxine departed this life on July 20, 2024, at her home. She is preceded in death by her beloved Husband Charles Edward Johnson, her father Bill Croomes, Mother Zelma Randolph, Stepfather Roosevelt Randolph, brother Johnny Croomes, sisters, Sandra and Diann, children, Vernita Gail, Charles Jr., Kimberly Darnell, and son in-law Douglas Micheal. And a host of brother in-laws that she loved dearly.
She leaves to cherish her memories her children Gwendolyn McNeal, Beatrice Johnson, and Trina Walker (Clifton). Her 13 Grandchildren Kevin, Rayland, Robert, Brittney (Miriam), Clifton (Erecia), Brandon, Shardai, Darrius, Corneisha, Amber, Cameron, April, Caitlyn, and her 12 great grandchildren who she dearly loved. Also to cherish her memories are her siblings Joann McGarthy, Thelma Croomes, Linda Dean, Richard Croomes, Delton Randolph, Vickie Veal (Floyd), Vernon Randolph (Ola) and a host of nieces and nephews and friends. She also leaves to cherish her memories her church family (NBCT) whom she loved dearly. Her long-life fiends Mrs. Alma Ruth, Mrs. Barbara Ray and the Marcolin street family.
