Gladys was born on April 7, 1930 in Smithville, TX to parents of Czech descent, Cecilia Henrietta Konvička (b. 1898) and Joseph Gabriel Sisak (b. 1898). She grew up in the towns of Luling and Smithville, graduating from Smithville High School in 1947, where she played clarinet in the marching band.
Gladys had a special love for her family and grandchildren, teaching them how to cook and passing on many recipes learned from her Czech family members. She organized and put together numerous cook books that she has passed on to her children and grandchildren. Later in life, after raising her children, she went back to work at Conoco for 15 years. She also, at the age of 60, obtained her Associate Degree from the University of Houston. Gladys also loved gardening, flowers and sewing, especially making dresses and drapes. She helped to organize a family reunion each year which was attended by both the Konvičkas and Sisaks. A lifelong Catholic, she played an active role in education and confirmation of her granddaughter. She loved classical music, and often enjoyed listening to piano.
Gladys is survived and missed by her husband of 69 years, James, and her three children Diane, David, and Dina. Her memory also lives on with her four grandchildren, Marissa, Bryce, Julianne, and Brenden.
Gladys was predeceased by her mother Cecilia, her father Joseph, and her sister Bernice.
