Hai Kim Vu (Hai), 67 of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on March 2, 2020 having lived a full life. Hai was born on October 14, 1952 in Hanoi, Vietnam to Ngon Van Vu and Hoa Thi Nguyen. The family moved to Saigon in 1955 where Hai grew up helping around the family run restaurant located just outside of Tan San Nhat Airport. Hai graduated high school at the age of 17, where he also pursued additional education in filmography. He was drafted in the South Vietnamese Army and served as Military Police until he came to the United States after the Fall of Saigon. He began his American life in Huntsville, Texas working at the Louisiana Pacific Company as a logger. He met his wife Hien in 1975, started his family in 1976, and relocated to Houston shortly thereafter. He enjoyed a long and successful career as one of the first Vietnamese mechanical engineers of the Crown, Cork & Seal Company for over 20 years. His work sent him all around the world, and he thoroughly enjoyed his travels. He also enjoyed relaxing in his lawn chair with a cold beer and a cigarette watching Fox News, fishing, barbecuing, his used car collection, and mowing the lawn, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Hien; daughter Holly Vu-Fulkerson (Dan); daughter Julie Hicks (Taylor); son Michael Vu; son Peter Vu (Nhi); grandchildren Audrianna, Alexander, Daniel Hai, Elise, and Colton; mother Hoa T. Nguyen; sister Kim Chau (Linh); and brother Viet Vu (Shirley). He was preceded in death by his father, Ngon V. Vu.
A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, March 5, 2020 from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm and for Friday, March 6, 2020 from 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm to be held at the Chapel of Eternal Peace at Forest Park located at 2454 S. Dairy Ashford, Houston, Texas 77077. The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 1:30 pm with a reception to follow at 3:00 pm to be held at St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church located at 13350 Ashford Point Dr., Houston, Texas 77082.
