Gillian “Jill” Elizabeth Gotto, age 49, of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully on Monday, the 5th of June, at her home. Jill had courageously struggled with strokes and complications of Juvenile Diabetes for many years. Her overwhelming faith, determined personality and sense of humor accompanied her thru numerous years of illness.
Jill graduated from The Kinkaid School, attended Vanderbilt University where she suffered a first stroke. She continued her studies while being legally blind and received a Bachelor’s degree cum laude from Houston Baptist University and a Master’s degree as a Clinical Social Worker from the University of Houston. Jill was employed at Houston Methodist Hospital for several years before becoming disabled by a second stroke.
Jill was a member of The Bering Drive Church of Christ, whose members have faithfully supported her for many years. She held membership in The Junior League, Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and The Association of Clinical Social Workers.
Gillian never met a stranger. Even after losing her vision, she would carry on a conversation with anyone and know all about them in a few short minutes. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining and many sports, excelling at tennis, skiing and swimming.
Jill is survived by her parents, Dr. Antonio M. Gotto, Mrs. Anita Gotto; her sisters, Dr. Jennifer Gotto and husband, Dr. Mark Roberts, and Teresa Gotto Teague; nephews, Nicholas, Alexander and Oliver Teague; and niece, Charlotte Teague.
The Gotto Family is extremely grateful for the loving care provided by Jill’s caregivers for many years, Bianca Bolado, Raquel Cuyugan and Elaine Tabangay. Jill would not have lived as long without their loving care and tender attention. Doctors from Houston Methodist Hospital and the Baylor College of Medicine provided superb and compassionate care for many years: Drs. Dale Hamilton, Saundra Hendrix, Neal Kleinman, Alice McPherson, Alan Garber and many others.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock this afternoon until eight o’clock this evening, Wednesday, the 7th of June, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 8th of June, at Bering Drive Church of Christ, 1910 Bering Drive in Houston.
Prior to the memorial service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
