

Gilda Ramirez, age 60, passed away from her earthly journey to eternal life on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. She was born February 12, 1963, in Houston, Texas’s community of Magnolia Park to Gilbert Ramirez and Betty Garcia and adopted by her grandparents, Jose Leal Ramirez, and Felicitas Ramirez.
She is survived by her husband Richard Arevalo, her sister, Rebecca Peña and her loving girls, Coco, and Lola. Numerous family members, nieces and nephews, Godchildren, and many other loving family friends.
In celebration of Gilda’s life, her beauty, her intelligence, her wisdom, her gift of service and commitment to her family, friends, and community, her overall love of life, we will celebrate her today and forever.
Married to Richard for 39+ years, an amazing wife, with a strong devotion to her family and faith.
In her formative years, she was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School continuing her education attending Houston International University receiving her bachelor’s degree in public administration with honors. She would continue her education with courses at Boston College and Howard University.
Gilda’s passion for her community led her to successful careers with the Metropolitan Transit Authority as their Director of Community Outreach and Government Affairs, followed by the Port of Houston’s Vice President of Small Business Development, setting national standards, expanding the Port’s role in Magnolia Park to local colleges and businesses. Her many interactions with many Chambers of Commerce, Civic Clubs, Women’s Organizations, Boards of Directors, City of Houston, Harris County, the Mayors Hispanic Advisory Council, she received many recognitions and honors for her work. A true trailblazer in her own right, a career enthusiast and expert, Gilda would become her own independent business consultant, continuing her strong commitments to mentoring future professionals, supporting, and empowering small, minority and women owned businesses.
The days and years to come will not be the same without Gilda, but there will be good days, all because of her. A life well lived and well loved. We love you; we will miss you forever and will never forget you.
A visitation for Gilda will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas 77023, followed by a memorial service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
