Gil M. Rodriguez, age 82, of Houston, Texas, passed away on May 13, 2021 surrounded by his wife and children. He was born to parents Dr. Pedro A. Rodriguez & Dolores Miel, on September 1, 1938 in Zamboanga City, Philippines. He was the youngest of nine children.
Gil met Maria Corona Fornier in 1966 in New York City. They were married in 1968 in Manila, Philippines. Together they raised 4 children: Gil John, Anne Marie, Tricia and Cristy. In Zamboanga, Gil worked as a businessman and civil servant. He was very active in The Rotary Club where he served as District Governor. He was elected Assemblyman of the Regional Legislative Assembly, Region 9 in Zamboanga City. Gil was an avid golfer and spent many weekends at the Zamboanga Country Club.
In 1987 they moved to Australia but have made Houston, Texas their home since 1991. In Houston, he became a dedicated member of the Couples for Christ serving as Household Head. With Gil’s charisma, his smile and friendly banter he made a good leader and also easily made friends everywhere he went.
Gil was dedicated and loving father, he drove his children to school, work and other activities. He cooked them breakfast every morning and made their lunches. He supported his children through their adulthood and took joy in caring for his grandchildren.
Gil is survived by his wife of 53 years, Maria Corona, son, Gil John, daughters, Tricia and Cristina, son-in-law, Eric, grandsons, Eric Joshua, Sebastian and Hunter, granddaughters, Madeleine and Corinne. He is also survived by his brother, Pedro Rodriguez, sister, Teresita Montinola and several nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Anne Marie Jamili.
A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, May 20th from 5-8pm with prayers and rosary. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday, May 21st at 11am at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 7720 Boone Rd, Houston, TX 77072. A reception will follow immediately after Mass at Crown Seafood, 10796 Bellaire Blvd Ste #C, Houston, TX 77072. Monsignor Rolando Diokno will officiate the ceremony.
