On November 15, 1952 Gertrude married the love of her life, Florian (Lack) Lewandowski. Gertrude and Florian built their life in Houston where they had 5 children and became the proud owners of The White Rose Drive Inn. She was a devout Catholic whom routinely prayed to the rosary, wonderful mother, a loving grandmother, and a devoted great grandmother, known as Nanny. She instilled a love for Astros baseball, Nanny’s sugar cookies, Jigsaw Puzzles, and late night Canasta games within each of her children. Her memory continues to live within each of us as her traditions will carry on for generations to come.
She is survived by her brother Dominick Zientek (Lillian), sister Lucy Buntin (David), and her children, daughter Barbara & Donnie Wilson, son Tony Lewandowski & Robbie Richardson, daughter JoAnn & Billy Kerley, daughter Lillian & Tommy Wilson, and son Marion & Lynette Lewandowski. Seven grandchildren, Chris (Lorie), Angela (Gary), Gina (James), Tim (Ashley), Kristina (Brandon), Lisa, and Kimberly. Seven great-grandchildren, Lisa Marie, LeAnn, Madison, Bailee, Tatum, Teagyn, and Abigail. She is also survived by numerous family members, extended family, and friends.
Gertrude is preceded in death by her parents Joe and Mary Zientek, husband Florian Lewandowski, brother Julian Zientek, sister Evarista Svec (Ivan), and great grandson Tyler Matthew Newton.
Pallbearers are Tim Wilson, Chris Kerley, Julian Zientek, James Zientek, Stephen Zientek, Ivan Svec, Ronnie Syptak, and Mike Pavlik.
Gertrude’s family would like to give special thanks to Ambassadors Assisted Living and Blue Star Hospice Care for the care and compassion given to her. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Tricia McKinney and the fabulous caregivers at Hands to Lend for their care and love in Gertrude’s final days.
