Gerard Jolivet Sr. was born on August 5, 1938 to the union of Ezekiel Jolivet Sr. and Rosa Beatrice Marsh-Jolivet in Baldwin, Louisiana. He was the ninth of sixteen children. At an early age, he accepted Christ and was baptized by the late Rev. C. Baptiste. He attended grade school in Louisiana. In 1956 the Jolivet family moved to Houston, Texas, and Gerard graduated from Wheatley High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and later attended Texas Southern University. Gerard was employed at Maxwell House Coffee as a Supervisor in the Shipping and Receiving Department for 28 years. After retirement, he was employed at Finger’s Furniture for 5 years. Gerard was a very classy dresser. He really enjoyed traveling, cooking, sports, horse racing, and making homemade ice cream. He was also an excellent bowler and was very proud of bowling four perfect 300 point games.
His family was truly his pride and joy! Gerard was married to the love of his life, Mrs. Marilyn Jolivet for forty-three years. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and four sisters.
He leaves precious and loving memories of his children Gerard Jolivet, Jr. (Yulonda), R. Trent Jolivet and Christopher Johnson; his beloved grandchildren, Mercedes, Jailen, Gerard III, and Nick; mother-in-law, Ms. Ozell Hanks, father-in-law, Mr. Moses Goston, sister-in law, Nichell Turney, three brothers, Russell Jolivet (Tina) of Baltimore, MD, Ralph Jolivet (Charlotte), Warren Jolivet, and play-brother Larry Johnson of Houston, TX; two sisters, Hilda Manning (Johnny) and Sylvia Waller (Oliver) of Houston, TX; and a host of great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, friends and neighbors.
A visitation for Gerard will be held Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. A funeral service will occur Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. A committal service will occur Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 2:15 PM.
