Geraldine Mary Prejean, affectionately known as GG (Grandma Geri), passed away peacefully at home in Tulsa, Oklahoma on April 7, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born on April 21,1935, in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana to Ambres and Felicia Plummer, joining their son, Calvin Plummer.
A much-beloved daughter, Geraldine lived a life marked by love, strength, and adventure. She established homes in many places throughout her life: Louisiana, New Jersey, Florida, Texas and most-recently, Oklahoma. She cherished her family deeply, especially her two children Edward P. Hilaire and Margaret Hayes Brossette.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her son, Edward Hilaire, her brother, Calvin Plummer, and her husbands: Ed Hilaire, Dr. John Hayes, Nick Fortson, and Corlvin Prejean.
Geraldine's legacy lives on through her daughter, Margaret, and her cherished grandchildren: Nicole and her husband Anthony King and Eric Hilaire and his wife Tiffany, as well as her great-grandchildren, Anthony King, Jr., Zara King, and Giselle Hilaire. Family meant everything to Geraldine, and she leaves behind memories of warmth, laughter, and unwavering support.
In her vibrant life, Geraldine was known for her culinary prowess, delighting those around her with her delicious meals. She had a passion for travel and found great joy in exploring destinations around the world, particularly on cruises. An avid basketball fan, she could often be found cheering on her favorite teams with enthusiasm.
Geraldine was a force to be reckoned with in the world of real estate for more than 35 years, where her determination and expertise shone brightly. Concurrently, she worked until retirement at New Jersey Bell and Bell Laboratories, always referring to herself as "a techie" for years. Her strength of character, coupled with her kindness and encouragement, left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Firm but always compassionate, Geraldine inspired those around her to reach for their dreams and never give up.
Among GG's survivors are many other relatives and friends from across the country, including her former daughter-in-law Cynthia Carpenter, who was her companion and caretaker for the past year.
As we bid farewell to Geraldine Mary Prejean, we celebrate a life well-lived and a spirit that will forever be remembered. May her legacy of love and resilience continue to inspire us all.
