Gerald Dean Stewart, 76, passed away November 18, 2020 in Houston, Texas. Gerald was born January 1, 1944 in Morton, Mississippi to Junius and Christine Stewart. He married Brenda Smith Stewart on July 23, 1966 and they have two daughters, Staci Stewart Johnson and Ashley Stewart Wenmohs.
He grew up in Jackson, Mississippi. His parents gave him a love for boats and skiing and he was a heck of a skier in his young days, just like his mom. He passed that love for boating and skiing on to his daughters. The family spent many days after he got home from work and their weekends skiing on the Ross Barnet Reservoir in Brandon, Mississippi.
Gerald attended Provine High School and graduated in 1961. Even after the many years, he was still very close with his high school classmates and was always involved and passionate about planning reunions and get togethers. We were told that he once lost a bet and that landed him on the cheerleading team in high school.
After high school, Gerald attended Mississippi College. He entered the Mortgage business at a young age right out of college and had a passion for the industry for 55+ years. He began his mortgage career in Jackson, Mississippi and relocated to Houston in 1982. He was involved in many areas of the business over the years. He was an integral part of the Mississippi Mortgage Bankers Association, before moving to Houston and then he was on countless Committees for the Mortgage Bankers Association, Texas Mortgage Bankers Association and the Houston Mortgage Bankers Association. He met and made some of his best friends during his long career in the mortgage business. He also mentored countless loan officers, processors, receptionists, etc through the years. If they had a passion and wanted to learn, then he was there and willing to help in any aspect.
Gerald, aka “BopBop” loved his family more than anything. He was happiest when he was in the crowd at one of his grandkids events, whether it was a basketball game, dance competition, baseball game, or football game. He never missed an event, whether big or small. In his earlier days, he was the same with his daughters, Staci and Ashley. Never missing a swim meet or tennis match.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Brenda of 54 years; his daughters, their spouses and his beloved grandkids, Staci Stewart Johnson and Taylor, and their children, Parker, Ally and Conner Johnson; Ashley Stewart Wenmohs and Cale Wenmohs and their daughter, Kendall Wenmohs. He is also survived by his sister Carolyn Stewart Collins and her son Jason Collins; nephew, Shane Stewart; niece, Lisa Stewart Comer and husband, Scott Comer, and their children, Mackenzie and Brody Comer; niece, Melissa Smith Harmon and husband, Scott Harmon, and their children, Grace and Aubrey; and nephew, Lowery Smith and wife, Kimberly, and their son, Emmitt.
