Age 92, formerly of Churchill, died peacefully on February 4, 2014 in Houston, Texas. Born and raised in Rochester, NY, he lived in the Pittsburgh area for the most part of 1948 – 2006. He moved to Houston in 2006 to live with his son and family.
Jerry served in the 1574 Heavy Shop Company in the Army Corp of Engineers in WWII. He personally manufactured six foot bolts for the Bridge at Ramagen on a lathe in a captured machine shop. The lathe was similar to those he used at Cornell (Class of 1943, graduated 1948). He finished his tour of duty in the Pacific on Okinawa. After the war he was a construction engineer and manager for Dravo. In the 1950s he helped build the Shippingport Atomic Power Station, the nation’s first commercial nuclear reactor. On his last project he managed the construction of power facilities for the Geysers (California), the world’s largest geothermal complex. In retirement he lovingly cared for his wife, Beth, during her long illness.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Pensom Fox. He is survived by his son, Charles Edward Fox, daughter-in-law, Sharon Spurr Fox and grandchildren, Amy, David, Joseph and Jennifer Fox of Houston.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 pm on February 12 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Houston. The Rite of Committal will be held at the gravesite at the Churchill cemetery (260 Churchill Road) on February 13 at 11:00 am.
