Georgia Jean Stewart, age 87 of New Caney, Texas went to be with The Lord on Saturday, March 12, 2022 peacefully her at home in Roman Forest. Georgia was born in Bearden, Arkansas on May 22, 1934 to parents Lessie Evans and Drill Chambliss. Georgia graduated from Bearden High School and was the salutatorian of her class. She worked at the Bearden Five & Dime, which is where she met John Stewart. They were married on December 19, 1952 and moved to Houston, Texas to make a life for themselves. She was a member of the Women’s Program Advisory Council and was a USPS Chairwoman. Georgia retired and was able to spend more time doing the things she loved most. That meant enjoying life and doing things for her family and friends. She loved gospel and country music and enjoyed regular trips to Branson to see live performances of her favorites. Some of her favorite hobbies were sewing, playing piano, and gardening. She liked doing the things that brought joy to others around her, and family was everything to her.
Georgia was preceded in death by her mother Lessie Evans Chambliss, father Drill Chambliss, brother Junior Chambliss, and sisters Pauline Purfoy, Wilma Leon, Betty Ratcliff, Sue Glass, and Joyce Gann.
