The family would later move to Houston, Texas in the Acres Homes area. She went on to attend Booker T. Washington High School, where she excelled in her academic studies, and was also a drum major.
Georgia later joined the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in the Fourth Ward of Houston, where she served on the usher board under the leadership of the late Rev. Robert Washington.
Later she would marry John H. Blanton on May 23, 1956 who preceded her in death. To that union, they were blessed with seven children; Deborah Elaine, John Jr.(Bubba), Larry Bruce, Bessie Louise (Coco), John Stephen (ToMan), James Leroy (Moose), and DeAndrea Chavet.
Five of their children have since preceded them both in death, John Jr., Larry, Bessie, John, and James.
Some of her later accomplishments in life would include attending nursing assistant school at Blalock Nursing Academy. She worked as a private duty nursing assistant caring for others something she did so well for many years. During her retirement years she went on to volunteer at a local school in San Angelo, Texas. As an honor she received foster grandparent of the year. She was an avid Blues music & Texans football team fan.
She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Deborah and DeAndrea (Clifton). Two sisters, Barbara J. Moses of Houston, & Mary Jo Brooks of California. Nine grandchildren, Trent, Kim, Rhonda, Lil Larry (who preceded her in death) Sylvia, DeAndrea, Michelle, James Jr., & Joy. A host of great grandchildren & 2 great great grandsons who loved checking on ‘grand mama’. They loved taking her flowers & balloons, that brought her so much joy.
