He was born on 3 October 1925 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to George Anthony Thompson and Vallie Randall Thompson. He grew up in Baton Rouge and graduated from University High School. He attended Louisiana State University for two years before transferring to University of Illinois where he earned a B. S. in Architectural Engineering.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and served as a Gunnery Officer with the rank of Ensign aboard the USS Dayton. While en route to Japan, the ship was notified that the war had ended. George completed his tour and was honorably discharged after which he returned to Baton Rouge to work.
George practiced architecture until 1971, then moved to Houston, Texas where he worked and retired from 3D International as a Senior Vice President. He enjoyed retirement by relaxing and playing golf on multiple Houston courses as often as possible.
George is preceded in death by his father and mother, and his brother Harold Lane Thompson Sr. George is survived by his wife of 72 years, Barbara Bailey Thompson, his daughter, Lynn Thompson, his son, Randy Thompson and daughter-in-law, Maggie Thompson. His brother’s wife Shirley Thompson of Seacrest, FL; niece Jo Ellen Campbell of Baton Rouge, La; nephews Lane Thompson and wife Sandy Thompson of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Jim Thompson and wife Beth Thompson of Spring, TX and numerous nephews, nieces and grandchildren.
He could often be heard saying Geaux Tigers!
