Pat Murphy was born in Houston, TX to George and Sylvia Murphy. He was the youngest of 4 children and the only boy of the family. Family meant everything to Pat. He grew up spoiled and loved by his three older sisters, Molly, Becky, and Mindy and their love endured a lifetime.
Pat graduated from Westbury High School, and later completed his Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Land Management at the University of Houston.
Pat met his wife, Kris, in 1979 on a drawbridge in Sargent, TX, and they married on January 8, 1983. Pat and Kris loved experiencing the great outdoors together, watching the Astros, and taking drives through the countryside while listening to their favorite music. Their 41 years of marriage were filled with wonderful memories raising their three girls: Melissa Ann, Katie Lynne, and Shannon Leigh Murphy. In 2012, they welcomed their granddaughter Emma Ann Billieu, and in 2023 welcomed their daughter in law Hannah.
Pat worked as an insurance adjuster for 35 years, 27 of which he spent with State Farm. In the years before his retirement, he was able to travel to hurricane impacted states and helped people through some of the hardest times of their life. He was a people person, and was uniquely qualified to help them navigate through stressful times.
His life was full of adventures - he loved fishing and hunting, and his weekends were filled with making memories with his best friends on a boat or in a deer stand. He passed his passion for the outdoors on to all 3 of his daughters, and his love of sports led him to become a beloved softball coach for his daughters and their many teammates.
Pat loved all of the women in his life - his wife, sisters, daughters, daughter in law, and granddaughter - and loved nothing more than to talk to them all on the phone all day. He loved hearing about their adventures, and could be described by all of them as their best friend. He had a way of knowing the answer to just about any question, and was excellent at listening with an open mind. His conversations will be sorely missed.
Pat was a strong, resilient man, and met all of life’s battles head on.
He is preceded in death by his parents George and Sylvia, and survived by his wife, daughters, granddaughter, daughter in law, sisters Molly English, Becky Murphy, and Mindy Crowe and their spouses, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, brothers and sisters in laws.
His celebration of life will be held at Westbury United Methodist Church on Friday, October 11 at 12 PM. In lieu of flowers, we are asking that donations be made to Texas Parks and Wildlife or Lung Cancer Research Foundation, or Westbury United Methodist Church.
