George, known to many as Tommy, was the first of twins in the new Hearne hospital. Tommy moved to Arp, Texas then Pasadena and later Houston. He attended Eugene Field Elementary, Hamilton Junior High, and Reagan High where he met the love of his life, Judy C. Powell. Tommy played little league baseball and at the same time was a paperboy (starting out on a girls bicycle). He dated Judy for three years and then married on August 30, 1963. They were married for 59 years. He moved around the Houston area and finally built a house on Lake Conroe where he resided with his wife and family for 36 years.
Tommy grew up in a Baptist Church and later joined Presbyterian, then Methodist with his wife, Judy. He was a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church and also played on the church softball team. He sang in the Methodist Choir where his beautiful base voice could be heard. Tommy worked for Hormel Meat Company out of High School while taking business courses. He then joined his brother David LaGrone in the feed and ranch supply business and later bought the store. As time went on he went to work for Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a Security Guard for 10 years and then retired.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Stefanie Morgan, sister Patsy Box and brother, David LaGrone.
His memory will be cherished by his survivors: His loving wife of 59 years, Judy C. LaGrone; daughter, Tammy Welch and her husband Paul Welch; son-in-law, Lance Morgan; grandsons, Joshua Walton and his wife Gracie Walton, Jacob Damuth and his fiancée Krystal Lucero, and Jonathan Damuth; great-grandchildren, Brendan Walton, Nadya Walton, Raimi Damuth, Levi Damuth, Abigale Damuth, Samuel Damuth, Ryan Fletcher and Rebecca Fletcher; sister, Brenda Greene and her husband, Darrel Greene.
A visitation for George will be held Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A funeral service will occur Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A committal service will occur immediately after the service at Brookside Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers are Joshua Walton, Mike LaGrone, Jonathan Damuth, Darrel Greene, Ryan Fletcher and Bill Ash.
