He leaves his wife of 57 years, So Ching (Lee) Joe; his son, Edmond Joe and his wife Judy, 2 grandchildren Kyle and Allison; son Stanley Joe, and many close friends.
Born in Round Lake, Mississippi, he lived in Guangzhou, China for several years and returned to the United States at the age of 15.
In 1949, Mr. Joe learned to cook at a popular Chinese restaurant in Fort Worth, Texas - the Blue Star Restaurant.
One of his greatest joys was joining the US Navy in 1955 where he was an electrician aboard the USS Hancock CVA-19. He wanted to see the World. His Navy destinations included Hawaii, Guam, and Okinawa, Japan.
He returned to the Blue Star restaurant in 1960 where he learned all about the restaurant business and became part owner.
He met his wife, So Ching Lee via mutual friends and married in 1962 in Hong Kong.
In 1975, he and his wife opened his own restaurant called Chinese Kitchen and pioneered the Chinese Buffet concept in Fort Worth. He continued to grow his restaurant business and retired in 1995.
Mr. Joe’s passion for sports included the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and the Dallas Mavericks. He loved entertaining friends with his cooking.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10AM, March 21, 2020 at Ascension Catholic Church, with private inurnment.
