He was born in Larned, Kansas on January 18, 1935 to George and Dorotha Ismert. He was married to Jeneane Ismert for nearly 61 years.
Gene had a 30-year career as a Geophysicist for Chevron Oil Company. He was a former US Army pilot and served as a member in The Gideon International Ministries, The Full Gospel
Business Men’s Fellowship International and church leadership positions at Evangelistic Temple (Houston) and Believer’s Fellowship (Navasota).
Gene had a passion for Jesus Christ and accepted Him as Lord and Savior in 1968. His conversion and walk with Christ was at the core of how Gene lived his life. He deeply loved his wife Jeneane, whom he met in Manhattan, Kansas in 1960 and also his family of five children and five grandchildren. In addition, he loved roadside geology, national parks, Kansas State University athletics (Gene and Jeneane were both alumni), wrenching on car motors, woodworking, ham radio, big band music, immersive research on involved topics, travelling the USA, his athletic success in younger days playing basketball, tennis and volleyball, gardening, jokes, big grins and ice cream.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorotha Ismert, sister Joan (Ismert) Peterson, brother James Ismert and nephew Doug Peterson.
He is survived by his wife of almost 61 years, Jeneane (Hubert) Ismert, son Ken (and his wife Terry) Ismert, daughter Carolyn Amadon, son Matthew Ismert (and his wife Lisa), daughter Catherine Zappe (and her husband Eric), daughter Bethany Choi (and her husband David) and granddaughter Campbell Jane Ismert and grandsons James Choi, Eli Zappe, Van Ismert and Ryan Choi.
A visitation for George will be held Tuesday, March 15, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 2:00 PM, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077.
