George was born in Galveston, on the 5th of February 1937 and was raised in Texas City. He graduated from The University of Texas in 1960 and University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, in 1964. He completed his internship at Hermann Hospital before entering the United States Army where he earned his jump wings with the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Following his tour with the 101st, he completed his residency in Dermatology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. George practiced Dermatology in West Houston for over 40 years. His practice and caring for his patients were two of his great passions in life. His other passions in life included his wife and family, his Harley Davidson, skydiving, visiting Santa Fe, New Mexico, his Catholic Faith and annual retreat at Manresa near Convent, Louisiana.
George was preceded in death by his father, George W. Hetherington, Sr.; mother, Bertie Adams Hetherington; and daughter, Laura Beth. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rindy; daughters, Lisa Held and husband Robert, Laura Hostak and husband James; and grandchildren, Gabriella, Joshua, Michael, Sage, Brittany, James, Ryan, Adam, Tristan and Marie; and six great-grandchildren.
George’s family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Biswait Kar and staff at Memorial Hermann Heart and Vascular Institute and the compassionate team of care givers from Memorial Hermann Home Hospice.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six until eight o'clock in the evening on Sunday, the 21st of December, in the drawing room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A Mass of Christian Burial is to be offered at eleven o'clock in the morning on Monday, the 22nd of December, at St. Cyril of Alexandria Catholic Church, 10503 Westheimer Road in Houston, where Fr. Mario J. Arroyo, Pastor, is to celebrate.
The Rite of Committal is to follow, via and escorted cortège, at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster.
