George Gillum was born December 20, 1949 in Houston, Texas. His parents Robert Gillum, Sr. and Hazel Westbrooks Gillum Cones preceded him in death as well as his eldest son, Derek Bernard Gillum (February 2009). On Sunday, May 12, 2024, he joined his parents and eldest son in their heavenly home. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cynthia Malonson Gillum, sons George Gillum III, Rodney Allen Gillumand Adrian Robert Gillum aka Sho Mohammed and grandson, Ashton Michael Carpenter.
From his youth, George aspired to become an entrepreneur even while working for other companies. He achieved his dream in 1982 when he launched his company Triple 8 Venture Corporation which is still inbusiness. That business venture began with a small ad written by his wife, Cynthia, being laced in the business section of the Green Sheet. Although small in size and simple in content, the ad caught the attention of enough readers so that the “phone started jumping off the hook.” And the rest is history as the business that was started in 1982 has continued to grow year after year. After his family, his first love was the care and grooming and growth of this business which he cherished and nurtured as a parent would a child.
In addition to his wife and children, he leaves to cherish his memory siblings Robert Gillum, Jr, Frank Cones, Virginia Cones, and Linda Irving and a whole host of nephew, nieces, cousins, friends and business associates.
