George Hubert Crawford went to our heavenly father on August 9, 2022. He was born on January 12, 1941, in Marshall, Texas. His parents were Ulysee Crawford and Rosia Bernell Gooch. George Crawford was a member of Yales Street Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. J.T. Holcombe.
George was highly respected as an educator. He received his early childhood education in Marshall, Texas. He later moved to Forth Worth, Texas where he graduated from Dunbar High School in 1959. George began his college career in Houston, Texas, receiving a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Education from Texas Southern University. After graduating, he accepted a position with the Houston Independent School District, teaching at Osborne Elementary. After retiring from 30+ years of teaching at Osborne Elementary, he still had the thirst to teach. He subsequently accepted a position teaching math at Kennedy Elementary.
George Crawford received many honors and awards throughout his career. He received a Merit Award for Outstanding Achievement - MAT6 Excellence “I Can Succeed” – Teacher of the Year in Houston. He was the Chairperson of the Osborne Elementary Boy’s Day program. He received a Commendation for Outstanding Achievement at the US Space Camp Academy for Educators in Huntsville, Alabama in 1993. He was chosen for such a distinction from more than eleven thousand of his fellow teachers to represent the Houston Independent School District. Lastly, George had the distinguished honor to be the Grand Marshal of the Houston Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2002. This was bestowed on him for being the Houston Independent School District Teacher of the Year.
George was preceded in death by his parents. To cherish his memories, he leaves his loving wife of 57 years, Rose Crawford, two children, Shivaria Crawford Willie and Mark Crawford. A loving daughter-in-law, Pamela Crawford, siblings Bettie J. Smith and Roy Morgan and his favorite cousin, Alice Sanders. George leaves five loving granddaughters, Dakota Willie, Breanna Birdwell, Abigail Crawford, Emily Crawford, and Isabel Crawford. George also had a goddaughter, Jessica Madere Smith. George leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
George will be greatly missed and while we reflect his earthly life, we celebrate his everlasting life with the Lord.
