January 29, 1922 to Mary and Fred Collins. Bubba, as he was known to family and old friends lived his
entire life in Houston, graduating from Milby High School and attending the University of Houston
before entering the service. He joined the USMC, 4th division during WWII, making four landings in the
Pacific. He was on Iwo Jima for 24 days and was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He returned
home to his high school sweetheart, Josie Howard. They had two children, Julie and Fred. George was a
member of the Masonic order and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a Past Patron of Sunshine
Chapter #399. George and his family attended Parker Memorial UMC many years where he served on
the administrative board and as Church Treasurer. He worked in the family automotive parts business:
Fred Collins Co. In the mid 60’s, the family founded Central Parts Warehouse when he served as
President until retirement in 1988. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren and various volunteer
posts at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church (MDUMC) including repairs to homes in the Larkin St.
area and driving the van for the after school program, where he was a member until his death.
Among his hobbies were fishing, sailing, woodworking, and golfing. He enjoyed many hours on golf
courses with good friends and only regretted not being able to play one more round. He will be
remembered as a model husband and father, but especially as a very engaged grandpa to his
grandchildren. The family is blessed to have had his care, love and leadership, giveng us an
excellent example of how life should be lived.
George was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Josie, his parents, sisters Agnes Freeman and
husband Melvin, Frances Hornback, brother Harold Collins, and his son-in-law Fred Eisenhauer Sr.
He is survived by his sister Janie Ross of The Woodlands; his daughter Julie Eisenhauer of Houston; his
son Fred Collins II and wife Kassie of Waller County; grandchildren George T. Collins II and wife Jennie
of Hockley; Bill Collins and fiancé Margo Hanks of Houston, Elke Eisenhauer – Sass and husband Kelly of
Houston, and Fred Eisenhauer Jr. and wife Sue of Madison, Wi. and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at MDUMC on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. In Lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to the Caring Forever Foundation at MDUMC or charity of your choice.
