George Clive was born in Brownsville, Texas, on September 30, 1928. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1947, and he earned an associates degree in business administration from Texas Southmost University.
His first career was in the steamship business. He managed and opened offices for the San Francisco-based D’Amico steamship line in Brownsville, Guaymas (Mexico), and Nicaragua. After civil unrest in Nicaragua, George moved his family to Houston, where he became assistant manager of the Texas Transportation Terminal. He later embarked on a second career as an entrepreneur, opening a series of restaurants in Houston and Crosby, beginning with US Submarine Sandwiches and ending with Romana’s Mexican Restaurant.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 64 years, Romana Liendo Clive, his four loving children, Mary Elizabeth and husband Teo Galvan, George Clive Jr. and wife Rebecca, Richard Clive and wife Janelle Rios, and Margaret Helton and Tony. “Grandpa” was so proud of all his grandchildren, Sara and husband Luke, Kathleen, Eva, Britney and husband Brandon, Jessica and husband Marcus, Devin, Connor, Emma; great-grandchildren, Luna, Teo, Romy, Norah, Gavin, Joslyn, Landyn and Ashtyn and the grand-pups, Shinobi, Baci, Bailey, Muffin and Chuy; dearest friends, Noel and Lois Cornwall and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
