Genevieve Bohlmann Evans

Genevieve Bohlmann Evans was restored with the Lord on Friday, the 13th of October 2023, while at her home, lovingly surrounded by her family. “Genny,” whom she was fondly known as, had an unwavering faith, an unequivocal love for her family and friends, and was one of the most compassionate souls on Earth.

Born on the 6th of March 1946 in Houston, Genny was the first born child to Hans and Genevieve Bohlmann. She met many of her lifelong friends while attending River Oaks Elementary, Lanier Middle School, Kinkaid, and Lamar High School. Genny enrolled at Randolph-Macon Women’s College in 1964, but soon returned to Texas and graduated from the University of Texas in 1968 with a degree in education. While at the University of Texas, Genny was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and was a Fiesta duchess in San Antonio.

Genny was able to apply her passion for education and love for all things related to history by becoming a ninth-grade teacher at Lanier Middle School. During this time, she began serving the Houston community as a member of the Junior League of Houston, dedicating her time to many committees and local facilities. After sustaining from the League, she continued her service with the River Oaks Garden Club. Genny enjoyed volunteering her time to support her favorite projects, the Pink Elephant Sale and the Azalea Trail. She worked alongside her sister, Margo, laughing, telling stories, and cherishing their time together.

In April of 1972, Genny began a new chapter in her life’s story when she married Robert “Bob” Ramsey Evans, Jr. It was upon marriage that her God-given purpose was revealed—she was a devoted wife and an exceptional mother to their three children and stepdaughter. She was always patient, understanding, gentle and nurturing. Always willing to listen to a good story or be there to lift her children up. She raised her family to know Christ and a love for the Christian faith.

Genny’s love for her children radiated to every individual that walked through their door. Everyone was always welcome in her home, greeted with her lovely smile and treated as one of her very own. The passion she had for her children grew exponentially when she became an adored grandmother, lovingly referred to as “GeeGee,” to her seven grandchildren. Her eyes would light up when they walked into a room or even just talking about their day. Not a moment passed in their lives she wasn’t involved in, either present or from afar. Little did she know, she was their gift from God.

Many of Genny’s cherished friendships spanned her lifetime. This special group, and their families, were so important to her. They stood by each other through all walks of life, from celebration to sadness and everything between.

Genny enjoyed traveling, be it to Europe with her best friends, being a pit crew member at one of Bob’s races, a fun family weekend at the Bohlmann Farm, or a long road trip to Lake Martin. She always found history lessons in every corner and could recite all the memories of her travels, for years to come, with her fantastic story telling ability.

Genny was driven and passionate about her love for Jesus and deeply rooted in the Christian faith. She was a member of the Church of St John the Divine for most of her life. She found her time spent there restoring and sacred.

For the last 20 years, Genny enjoyed the comradery of the office place at Ontellus. She was a dedicated employee and leader in the workplace. Always longing to learn and teach, she assumed roles accentuating those talents and passed them on to others.

For Genny, everything revolved around being together. She was fiercely loyal when it came to her friends, family, and her faith. Even when she was faced with adversity, Genny would remain positive, committed, and true to her solid foundation and purpose. She was so giving of herself and her many talents, selfless every step of the way.

Genny was preceded in death by her parents, Hans Joachim Bohlmann and Genevieve Bowman Morrow; her brother, Hans Wright Bohlmann; and her husband, Robert Ramsey Evans, Jr.

Genny’s contagious spirit and love will forever be remembered by her children, Ramsey Evans and his wife Denise, Morrow Evans and his wife Virginia, and Genevieve Allen and her husband Keith; her stepdaughter, Erika Evans; her sister, Margo Hurn and her husband Jimmy; her brother, Jonathan Bohlmann; her grandchildren, Kirsten, Robert, and Kate Evans, Morrow and Gray Evans, and Evan and Eli Allen; along with many adoring cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws who will go on remembering her joy and faithfulness as well.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family to be held from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 24th of October, in the grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

A memorial service is to be conducted at three o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 25th of October, at The Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston, where the Rev. Dr. The Rev. Dr. Doug Richnow, Priest Associate, will serve as officiant.

Immediately following, all invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Sumners Hall.
