Gene Michael Stevens, beloved son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend, at age 82 passed away on September 28th, 2021 in Houston, Texas. He was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on June 19th, 1939. Gene was the son of Albert Joseph and Violet Marie Antoinette Blancon Stevens. He was one of 12 children, and had 5 sisters Ardella, Carol, Fern, Patsy, and Ramona. With 6 brothers Alfred, Barry, Gary, Mark, Rodney, and Wayne. He was the husband of Rosalina Stevens, and father of daughters Cheryl, Mona, Megan, Jurayne, and sons, Troy and Luken and grandchildren Noelle, Hannah, Liah. He is survived by brothers Alfred Joseph of Baytown, Texas and Mark James of Round Rock, Texas.
In his youth, he and his family lived in Michigan and then moved to South Louisiana when their father captained a shrimp boat. They later moved by boat to Brownsville, Texas to follow the industry. He served in the US Army on a mortar squad. He earned many certifications and various technical training in the Oil & Gas Industry, as a Geophysical Engineer. He would do open water helicopter survival training into his late 70s. He visited and worked on every continent of the world, and their oceans performing shallow and deep-water seismic mapping.
Gene was a fun-loving generous person. The last four years, he worked with his son Troy at T Gray Utility & Rehab Company, as a master mechanic. He welcomed the challenge of keeping up with 20+ vehicles and various pieces of equipment. He never missed a day of work, but will be missed every day. He was the first one there in the morning, and always had a smile on his face.
He loved restoring classic cars, watches, and drag racing. He was the Rio Grande Valley Drag Racing Champion, and would race anyone in a car or by foot. He waited patiently for 78 years to be a grandfather, and loved to eat dinner and visit with family. He was known to drive all day in his 57 Chevy, to spend a minute with a loved one.
Friends are invited to visitation with the family on Monday, October 18, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM funeral services will follow at 11:30 am, in the Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77024. A graveside will occur Monday, October 18, 2021 at 1:30 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
