He joined the US Army in 1975 and served honorably until 1977. Gary was an ironworker until he began his career at the Texas Department of Transportation in 1987 and retired, after 29 years. He has a combine 36 years of experience working directly for TX Dot and as an engineering consultant in various Districts across the State.
Gary met the love of his life Lisa Bollwinkel, and married June 14, 1997, together they raised four beautiful daughters. In the most recent months, he was able to share his knowledge while working alongside his daughter, Kiley Ray, guiding her and watching her mature in unfamiliar territory. Gary’s greatest passion was armwrestling. He participated in the sport from his early 20’s and was inducted into the Texas Armwrestling Hall of Fame in 2021.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald Dayton Ray and Alice Elizabeth Ray; father-in-law, Donald H. Bollwinkel; and brother-in-law, Donald C. Bollwinkel.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Ray; daughters, Halston Goodman (Shannon), Brittney Ray, Alexis Ray and Kiley Ray; brothers, Richard Ray, and David Ray; grandchildren, Emmitt Seabaugh, Gage Goodman and Woods Harrington and Pearl Ray.
A funeral service for Gary will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039, followed by a graveside service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
