Sergeant Major Gary Lee Nichols died on October 15, 2018, in Dallas, of complications from pancreatic cancer, surrounded by his family.
Gary was born in Houston, Texas on October 31, 1954. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces, serving an active tour of duty in Vietnam. Upon Gary’s retirement from the military he remained an active participant in the American Legion, Fifth District, Post 453 in Dallas, Texas. Gary is survived by his spouse, Kathleen Suba Morrissey; his mother Patsey Peace; his children Kenton P. Nichols (Jessie), Shawn Nichols, and their mother Kathy Kent Smith; his children Ashley Nichols Sydow (Dustin), Trevor Nichols and their mother Sherri Nichols; his grandchildren Maisy, Nova, Hazel, Remi, Trinity and Dylan; and his sisters Pamela Presley (Greg) and Cheri Hubert (Tony).
He is preceded in death by his father, Herbert “Sonny” Lester Nichols, and his uncle, Jeffrey Lynn Nichols
