Gary L. Dixon, 75, of Spring, TX, passed away on February 21, 2019 in his home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Sharon T. Dixon (Moll) and their two children: Mark Dixon, his wife Stacy and their girls Alexis and Brooke and Gail Duncan (Dixon), her husband Jeff and their daughter Abigail. He also leaves behind his brother Terry Dixon and sister Mary Doocy.
Gary was born and raised in Bancroft, Iowa and was one of eleven children to Orville T. and Mae E. (Grant) Dixon on May 6, 1943. He graduated from Sway City High School in 1961 from where he enjoyed playing football and spending time on his sister (Betty) and husband’s (Art) farm during the summers. He went on to study Business at Mankato College, where he met his wife, and graduated with a Bachelors degree. He married Sharon on June 19, 1965.
He was a supportive father through coaching and refereeing soccer and being the President of the Plano East Band Boosters for three years.
He was extremely proud to be called grandpa of Alexis Dixon, Brooke Dixon and Abigail Duncan.
Gary worked as a District Service Manager for General motors for 35 years. He retired in 2005 having been Man of the Month 8 times and Man of the Year once. After retiring he was able to enjoy his passion of traveling on his Gold Wing motorcycle, named “The Incredible Dream”, across 30 states with his wife. He also had a passion for old cars and began attending vintage car shows. He eventually purchased a 1938 Chevy to take to these shows.
He was preceded and met in heaven by Orville T. Dixon, father, Mae Dixon, mother, Betty Bergum, sister, Phyllis Johnson, sister, Lois Larson, sister, Ada Anderson, sister, Joy Dixon, sister, Orville Lee Dixon, brother, William (Bill) Dixon, brother, Harold Dixon, brother.
A special thank you to VITAS hospice for providing the opportunity for Gary to be with his family and at home for his last few days. The family has entrusted Brookside Funeral Home with the arrangements. A celebration of life Mass service is scheduled at Christ the Good Shephard, 18511 Klein Church Rd, Spring, TX. Mass service date and time are yet to be determined.
