Gary was born on June 27, 1958 in Houston, Texas.
Gary was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Waltrip High School in 1976.
While in high school, Gary started working at Foley’s Department Store as a sales floor associate in 1974. Gary’s hard-working dedication and his desire to go above and beyond resulted in his promotion to Operations Supervisor. During his long and distinguished career in Retail Operations, Gary worked at Northwest Mall, Memorial City Mall, Pasadena Mall, and Greenspoint Mall. As an Operations Manager/Human Resource Manager Gary received many awards for excellence during his 36 year career at Foley’s/Macy’s Department Stores. Gary was always grateful for the amazing people he worked with and the many lifelong friendships that were created. Gary retired in 2010.
In May 1985, Gary married Tina who he met at Foley’s. He often said that he would have dated her 6 months sooner if she hadn’t dyed her hair red!! Their first date was March, they were engaged in November and married the following May. Tina often says that was not fast enough for her. Over 34 years, this beautiful marriage was blessed by two children – Laura and Chris as well as two grand-children Caylee and Chase. Gary’s family was his pride and joy as well as his biggest treasure.
Gary was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church for over 25 years. He found strength and comfort during tough times in his church family. They lifted him up in prayers which nourished his spirit. Sunday was his favorite day of the week. He loved hearing the word, the praise music, and the fellowship with others.
